One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a great option, especially if you want to save money on an Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. It's also very quiet and works when you're at work or at school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming offered by the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you're in need of it mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and effective at dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also features strong suction and a self-emptying bin. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, but it isn't as efficient as some of its competitors in deep cleaning.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant circular design that appears more like a normal Roomba than the competition's boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive looking models in our tests. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile application interface and integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and create more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum cleaner vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its competitors with premium features. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas of the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

It can be used to make cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance.
