The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.

It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.

For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance.
