Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our first option. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal for those whose office or home has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming feature that's available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles, like pet hair. It also features an impressive suction system and an automatic bin for emptying. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This top-performing mop and vacuum combination uses advanced sensor technology to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app lets you customize zones and change the cleaning schedule. Its battery life is average when compared to other models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can instruct it to pull back and extend its mops. This helps prevent cross contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath furniture with low levels and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the entire house with the battery at 66 percent left. It did a good cleaning job on a variety of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rugs. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog turds, socks, shoes and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can also clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic autonomous vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba rather than the boxy units this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive designs in our reviews. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors including a structured light system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation autonomously. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models like the X40 is user-friendly, with an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only issue is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work, or at night when you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it's more expensive and produce more noise.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It comes with a variety of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device like Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dry mop pads.

The smart robot employs the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also comes with a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also alters the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they tend to be.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have lot furniture. For busy families, a recharge function and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to resume where it left off could be very beneficial.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more sophisticated than its price would suggest. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses an oscillating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance. The app also gives access to a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can get to corners and underneath furniture better. It also has strong 8000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. It also has the ability to create a spot-clean that scours a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a great job vacuuming, however it is more likely to be caught on low thresholds. It is also louder than other top robot vacuums we have test. It also has an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
