The robots that vacuum and mop also have Carpet Boost, a feature that increases its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our bare floor tests and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws however, which hinder them from being our first choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to get caught up in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of an area.

It's still a great deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and works when you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its agile navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, though it lags behind some competitors in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones through the well-designed app. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

It is possible to instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mops and to extend them when in a room with carpet, which helps prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It doesn't offer the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

During testing during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of rooms and floors with mixed flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-notch and it was nimbly avoiding fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.

It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but offers superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

This mop and vacuum combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It's one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is also its smartest. It has advanced features such as Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company's good robot vacuum that can wash mop pads on its own).

It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely autonomously refill and empty its base station, and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

Like other iRobot models, the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive but not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient however, it's going to cost you more and make more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take the care of mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than some of its premium competitors. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to do the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty these areas are.

For bigger homes, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot hoover and mop to clean a particular area of your house via the app or via voice commands. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. For families with busy schedules recharge functions and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum mop cleaner robot to resume where it left off can be very useful.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you might expect from its price tag. It is a great job cleaning, removing 55% of debris in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through an initial mapping run that gathers information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to create a spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app has a range of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture better. It features a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also create a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras resemble cute eyes. It does a good robot vacuum job vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is a bit more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
