It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes and could not navigate densely packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera that would let it see the corners of an area.

It's still a good value for those whose office or home has lots of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. Additionally, it's quiet and can be used when you're at work or going to school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective in mopping. It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could fill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's loud, which can be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or at night as you attempt to sleep.

It's also highly self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through a mapping run which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create an automatic vacuum cleaner and mop spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas to improve performance.
