Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare, and they're particularly adept in cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which hinder them from being our top choice. For one, the Q5's navigation system does not include AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek, circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models, this mop and robot vacuum is one of the most attractive designs in our tests. The newest model from iRobot is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to use. It comes with an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a concern in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you're trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and some extra cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a lot of advanced features that let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and cleans and drys the mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium competitors. It also mops using one pad that has a reciprocating motion, which does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, or to set up the spot-cleaning. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency.
