It can be stuck on power cords or socks and have difficulty navigating between surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood.

iRobot recommends clearing areas where the i3+ EVO will vacuum prior to when you use it, and include putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. It's also recommended to keep the dustbin and filter clean so that they aren't clogged by dirt. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is filled or the battery is empty it will return to its docking station, automatically emptying its trash into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning the area where it left off. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous use. It takes 3 hours to charge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is a top model from iRobot’s flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It is self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most important feature is the self-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ can map rooms more efficiently with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and it can direct your robot using the app or by voice.

The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The biggest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying garbage bin which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and move around the room and vacuum a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After connecting we were able to communicate with the i7+ using voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car that is amidst a sea of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It is powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in most homes, but also small enough to fit on a coffee table or bookcase.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system captures allergens and expels cleaner air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to penetrate into carpets and collect large crumbs or fine dust. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to the task. It quickly converts from floor vac to handheld vacuum and back.

This model has a dock which charges the Dyson to 100 percent in 3.5 hours. It also provides the ability to connect two attachments and an Wand. This is a significant improvement over older Dysons models, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The V10's main drawback is its limited running time. As CR's tests have shown, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a common, not exceptional, battery-powered cordless vacuum's run time. It's enough time to sweep the average-sized home, but not enough to get into every corner. (A second pass is usually sufficient). This doesn't mean that this model doesn't have its benefits: It's lighter and agile than older cordless Dysons, and its vacuuming efficiency is better on carpets with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuum cleaners vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to invest too much on a robot. It's capable of sucking up a variety of types of debris and sizes during our tests, and frequently goes over the same areas multiple times to get a really thorough clean. Its flat front makes it possible to reach corners and edges of walls.

In our tests our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86 percent of it.
