Still, it's very good, especially if you want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly bare-floor home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective at mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 comes with a self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in just a few minutes.
2. iRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming capabilities into an elegant, compact package. It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has an intuitive mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that it's a noisy unit that could be problematic if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit expensive, but it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and look better. If you're willing to put up with a bit more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of features that are advanced and will help you forget your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that can take care of both mopping and vacuuming, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's dustbin, refills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to finish the job. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for different areas in the home based on how dirty these areas are.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for a model that has zone or spot cleaning modes that let you tell the robot to clean one specific area of your home via the app or voice commands. If you have a lot of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you would imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using a single pad and a reciprocating movement that cleans better that most mop cleaners for robots that we've tested. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate a mapping run, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance.
