Both robots are proficient at removing surface dirt on hard floors and carpets and are able to maneuver around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes a smart map of your home to aid the i3+ in its navigation and clean efficiently. However, unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots that we test, the i3+ doesn't have a feature for avoiding obstacles and therefore it could get stuck on things like socks or power cords and it can have difficulty in navigating through transitions between surfaces, such as from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests that you clean up the area where the i3+ EVO vacuums prior to using it. This includes putting away any toys or other clutter it may encounter. It is also recommended to keep the filters and dust bin clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is not fully charged, it returns to the docking station and emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning where it began. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes three hours to charge.

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line, and it comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and -- the most important feature of all -- it comes with an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the main sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or via the app.

In our testing the i7+ was more agile and faster than our runner-up, the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. The main advantage it has over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces recurring cost.

We were also impressed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to start, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room and sweep the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and easy with the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to speak commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options for managing i7+ settings and monitoring performance.

It was able to remove most types of debris and sizes in our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges, which is a nice touch.

Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it lacks the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and j7+ Series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or furniture and will often run out of power before returning to its original location.
