Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to become entangled in shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a good deal particularly if your office or home has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save money. It's also quiet and operates while you're at work or school. It lacks the edge-to-edge bare floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, relying on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has an auto-emptying dock, however. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming, a feature that hasn't been seen in other robot vacuum that vacuums and mops vacuum/mop combinations.
3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models this mop and robot vacuum is among the most attractive looking models in our tests. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine like Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot cleaner with mop uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For bigger homes it's recommended to choose models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a specific area of your home using the app or voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Finally the recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more sophisticated than the price suggests. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with one pad that has a reciprocating motion that is cleaner than the other robot mop cleaners we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying washable base.
The well-designed iRobot application guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or organize an automatic spot-clean. It can also be used to it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also gives access to many options, including seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, meaning it is able to reach corners and underneath furniture more easily. It is equipped with an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction and sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and less expensive alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive style, much like Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute eyes. It is great at vacuuming, but it is more likely to get caught on low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuum best vacuums we've examined. It also comes with an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
