What is Evolution?

They assert that evolution is inconceivable because it would require miracles. The founders of modern scientific thought shunned miracles in fear that they would lose their credibility.

Some creationists believe in naturalistic evolution and special creation and consider their views to be "theistic evolution." This is also referred to as "continuous evolutionism" or the "evolution of species created." In this belief system, God creates the original species, and then allows them to evolve over time. Then, these evolutionary changes will create new species that are like the original ones.

Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event known as the Great Flood. Creationists believe that the first species were all created at the same time and that they evolved slowly afterwards. They deny the notion of abiogenesis, and argue that self-replicating life can't come from non-living matter.

In general, the creationists oppose the teaching of evolution in schools. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) has been the driving force behind this drive. STR has achieved its first victory in eliminating examples of the evolution of the horse and an avian ancestor, called the Archeopteryx, from textbooks. It is now focusing on removing snippets of Darwin's notorious finch research and on human evolution too.

STR claims to have the support of 4,000 families and individual members. Its aim is to root out what it believes is the "atheist materialism" that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of trainee biology teachers found that about half do not believe in evolution. The reasons aren't clear, but could include religion or the absence of creation scientists in the United States.

The KACR has achieved a lot through its seminars and lectures in the past. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and the book. One of them is a textbook on the natural sciences that has an orthodox creationist perspective, which attracted the attention of college communities. In 1991, a professor along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.

On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. This was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from outside the country including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin, spoke to an audience of several thousand. KACR and its members have given talks on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
