1. Roomba Q5 pro
The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive sibling, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we have examined. They are equipped with top-of-the-line motors which can pull up to 5,500 Pascals of suction force. Like other premium iRobot models (including the top pick) they utilize smart mapping technology to design detailed floor plans and avoid household obstacles such as cords and furniture legs. They also come with carpet boost, a feature that increases the robot's power when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet in order to get it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have a few flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It also doesn't come with a camera to look around corners.
It's still a good value for those whose home or office has lots of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and you can use it while you're at work, or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective in mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't hold on for long and don't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has self-emptying docks, however. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to mop floors. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. Its battery life is average when compared to similar models.
You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when in a carpeted room to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm is ideal for getting under furniture that is low and along baseboards. It's not as efficient on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete the task of cleaning a whole home, with 66 per cent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms that had mixed flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was great and it was able to avoid fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.
It's a little more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, but it has superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically emptys into its base, and also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which we've not seen on other robot vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
This mop and vacuum combination is sleek and has a circular look that looks more like a regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the competition. It's among our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest model from iRobot is its most advanced, with advanced features including enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that is able to wash mop pads).
It's also the only robot vacuum/mop to score an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40, like other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It comes with a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's a noisy unit, which can be a problem if you run it in the morning before work, or at night when you try to fall asleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are equally capable and better-looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's extremely powerful, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.
iRobot L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the line robot mop and vacuum. It has a number of advanced features that will make you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs' top-of-the-range X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and drys mop pads.
The smart robot makes use of the combination of LIDAR and structured light to create floor plans and spot obstacles, making it more efficient than some of its premium rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection but this was not reliable in our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to accomplish the task. It also has a feature known as "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house depending on how dirty those areas tend to be.
If you have a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner and was able to remove 55% of debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a rotating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the robot mop cleaners that we've tried. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules, or to create an automatic vacuum cleaner spot-clean. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app also grants access to a host of features like seasonal suggestions, custom maps, and advanced settings for your cleaning.
Its shape is more rectangular than other robot vacuums, best robot hoover meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It features a powerful 8,000 Pascal suction as well as sophisticated combs that remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean which will thoroughly clean an area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek more affordable alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's got a more attractive design, akin to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to be caught by low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robotic vacuums we've tried. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
