For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't include AI-powered obstacle avoidance and is therefore prone to become entangled in socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with a lot of people efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a Roomba from iRobot, and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also quiet and can be used while you are at work or in school. The only thing it doesn't have that you can't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick on well and aren't able to take on dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you want to change the mopping pad for dry ones in just a few just a few seconds.
2. IRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and quick navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also has strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, although it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.
This high-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to stay clear of obstacles and pet waste, and it also learns the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. 3. Roomba X40 from iRobot
The robot vacuum and mop combination is sleek and has a circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the rivals. It's one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is among the most intelligent and has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's the only robot vacuum/mop that has an exemplary 10/10 in our testing due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and boasts an its own self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models like the X40 is easy to use, offering an intuitive mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only downside is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This could be a concern in the mornings prior to work or at night when you're trying to sleep.
It's also quite expensive, though it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are similarly capable and look better. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that is very efficient however it will cost you more and make more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

It comes with a multi-function dock that will automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.
The smart robot employs a combination of LIDAR and structured light to create the floor plan and detect obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its more expensive rivals. It also has a camera mounted on the front for real-time hazard detection, although this wasn't quite 100% foolproof during our tests and was occasionally confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to do the job. It also features "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the intensity at which the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for various areas of the house in accordance with the degree of dirt they are.
For larger homes, it's worth opting for models that has zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home using the app or via voice commands. If you have furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. For busy families, a recharge feature and resume feature that permits your robot vacuum to continue from where it left off could be extremely useful.
iRobot RX3
The RX3 is a more efficient cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion that cleans better than most of the other mop cleaners for robots we've tried. And it's highly self-sufficient with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan, as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or organize an automatic vacuum cleaner spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance.
