It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our tests. This is thanks to a combination modern sensors, including a restructured lighting system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it boasts industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has an easy mobile application interface, and it integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's still quite an eerily noisy device which could be problematic if you run it in the morning prior to work or in the evening as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, although it's not as pricey as the Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally powerful and more attractive. It's a dual-purpose vacuum that's very capable, but it's more expensive and make more noise.

It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that does a better job cleaning than the other robot mop cleaners we've tested. It's also self-sufficient with a fully-featured application, and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process that collects data on your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or to set up a spot-clean. You can also use it to rank your most filthy areas for greater efficiency. The app offers a variety of options, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping and advanced cleaning settings.
