Study of Chinese Learners' Pedagogical Choices in Korean

The DCT for instance, cannot account cultural and individual differences. Furthermore it is also the case that the DCT can be biased and can result in overgeneralizations. As a result, it should be analyzed carefully before it is used for research or assessment purposes.

Despite its limitations the DCT can be a useful instrument to study the connection between prosody, information structure and non-native speakers. Its ability to manipulate social variables that affect the manner of speaking in two or more steps could be a plus. This feature can be used to study the effect of prosody in various cultural contexts.

In the field of linguistics, the DCT has become one of the primary tools to analyze learners' behaviors in communication. It can be used to study many issues, such as politeness, turn-taking, and the choices made in lexical use. It can also be used to assess the phonological complexity of learners' speech.

A recent study employed an DCT to test EFL students' refusal skills. The participants were given an array of scenarios and were asked to select an appropriate response from the choices provided. The authors concluded that the DCT was more efficient than other methods of refusal such as a questionnaire or video recordings. Participants were 46 CLKs of intermediate or higher ability who responded to DCTs and MQs. They were also asked to provide reflections on their assessments and their refusals to participate in RIs. The MQ data was first analyzed to identify the participants' choices in practice. The data were categorized according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Interviewees were also required to explain why they chose a pragmatic behavior in certain situations.

Interviews for refusal

One of the major questions in pragmatic research is why some learners decide to rescind pragmatic norms that native speakers use. A recent study attempted to answer this question by employing a range of experimental tools, including DCTs, MQs and RIs. The participants were comprised of 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. These results suggest that native speakers' pragmatic norms are not the norm for Korean learners. They could still be a useful model for official Korean proficiency tests. But it would be prudent for future researchers to revisit their relevance in specific scenarios and in various contexts. This will help them better understand the effects of different cultural environments on the classroom behavior and interactions of students from L2. This will also help educators improve their methods of teaching and testing Korean pragmatics.
