The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that is fully autonomously refill and empty its base station and it boasts the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.
Like other iRobot models, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an easy mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be a problem if you run it in the morning before work or in the evening as you try to sleep.
It's also a bit costly however, not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. If you're willing to put up with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very powerful two-in-one that will satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-off cleaning machine that takes care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot uses the combination of LIDAR and structured light to draw out the floor plan and detect obstacles, making it more efficient than its more expensive competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.
Its vacuum has a high suction capacity of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the amount of time the vacuum works and also adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with the amount of dirt they tend to be.
For larger homes it's recommended to choose models with zone or spot cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean one particular area of your home via the app or via voice commands. A stair mode can be beneficial if you have large furniture.
