For one, the Q5's navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tightly packed rooms very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

It's still a great deal, especially if your office or home has a lot of unfinished floors and you're looking to save some money. It's also very quiet and operates while you are at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick very well and cannot handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does have a self-emptying dock, though. If you're required to, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few seconds.

The latest flagship model from iRobot is also its smartest. It features advanced features like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company's good robot vacuum that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's also the only robotic vacuum/mop to score a perfect 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is due to the combination of modern sensors, including a restructured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

Like other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, with a simple mobile app interface and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant. It also has a front-mounted camera to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't foolproof in our testing and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the automatic vacuum cleaner and mop's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty those areas tend to be.

It's self-sufficient too, with a fully-featured app as well as an auto-emptying, washable base.
